THE HISTORY
This Stunning 1966 Ford Mustang, in rare color combination, has been fastidiously maintained and kept. Long term ownership.
Older restoration showing some patina. Dash is clean, original steering wheel looks original. Door panels are as pristine as the seating, and the custom center console houses the automatic gear selector. Aluminum and black trim molding runs down the center of the console, and shows nicely. Equipped with a rare and original working Ac unit. An original 289ci V8 sits in an very clean engine bay. This 289 is fed by a 2-barrel carburetor, and has a C4 3-speed automatic transmission, and an 8” 2.80 gear rear. A good example of a 1966 Ford Mustang, with restoration work, and maintenance performed. A bit of invasive rust, and surface rust is seen on the floorpans. Mechanically sound it starts quickly and drives smoothly.
THE BACKGROUND
The 1966 Mustangs were a smash! Ford sold over 600,000 of these, making it nearly twice as popular as it's competitor that year, the Chevy Impala. In fact, it was the best selling Mustang of all time!
Under the hood you'd find a few new upgrade options such as a cruise-o-matic three speed auto transmission or an automatic C4 transmission. There was also the option of a long duration solid-lifter camshaft "HiPo" paired with a 1" thick vibration damper which eliminated the need to have a vacuum unit on the distributor and added to the base horsepower of the 289 engine. The new 66 Mustang also featured adjustable rocker arms which was an upgrade from the 65 Mustang model.
